X99 Mainboard or CPU failure

Hello,

I got an ASUS x99 Deluxe Mainboard with an 5820k and a while ago it just didn't turn on anymore.

When I try to turn it on the fans spin for a second or so but then it shuts off. A couple seconds later it tries to boot again and that just loops until I cut power.

Also there is no post code and non of the LEDs that are supposed to indicate a problem with either RAM, CPU or GPU are on.

Troubleshooting is a bit difficult. I gave it to a repair shop to have it tested and they said, what I already guessed, that it's either MB or CPU but they don't have the parts and can't say for sure. Also parts are quite expensive.

Now a couple questions.

Does anyone has any experience in that regard?

What of the two is it more likely to be?

And if I would buy a new Mainboard could a faulty CPU damage the board and the other way around?

Thanks in advance

I ran into a similar issue with my ASUS X99 Deluxe II and i7-6800K earlier this year actually.

Exact same symptoms.

I did all the testing that I could with the spare parts I had available (PSU, RAM, GPU).

Narrowed it down to either CPU or Motherboard.

Eventually brought it into a local shop, and confirmed it was the CPU.

I don't exactly trust in the guy, but he is saying there have been reports of the X99 Deluxe (original and version II, apparently) killing CPUs.

Now, you would want to get the CPU and/or Motherboard tested to get a 100% sure answer.

If it is the CPU, and your i7-5820K is still under warranty, it should be pretty hassle-free -- start and RMA with Intel.
