If its just the desktop I would do something like this: 

No windows included. You can get a key for like $10

I figured the ssd would be better for most, rather than getting a 256gb ssd and hard drive. Especially since it’s his first gaming computer, he probably won’t have a huge steam library. I went with the 3000mhz ram because going with cheaper ram wouldn’t have made a difference in what cpu or gpu he could get. I also tend to favor ssd’s and fast ram though :)
