do all mobos support all OSes?

Go to solution Solved by kelvinhall05,

Absolutely, but do not get an X79 motherboard at eBay prices. Spending $300+ on X79 is ridiculous, you should only buy into it if you can get a CPU, motherboard, and possibly RAM or some other stuff for under $200 IMO.

I am interested in this mobo: https://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-Intel-X79-Motherboard-X79-DELUXE-LGA-2011-DDR3-ATX-SATA3-USB3-0/132633070418?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

But the "Operating System Support" section only lists Win8 64 and Win7 64... Just to make sure, OSes such as Ubuntu Server will run fine on this mobo, right?

Yes but depending on the OS, you might have some problems with finding compatible drivers or utilities. And even experiencing unstable drivers issues. But like i said, depends on the OS, the manufacture lists the OS they've tested and worked perfectly. Of course there are a bunch more of OSes that aren't on that list.

I am buying x79 because of the xeon e5 2670.

Pair it up with a cheaper chinese x79 board instead.
