Evening all! I have just ordered a brand new MSI Tomahawk B450 motherboard ad it has arrived to my surprise without any bubble wrap in the packaging suggesting it was preowned but more importantly the Heavy heat sink has broken Push pins so I cannot attach 1 side properly and the other side I's virtually popping off.. are these replaceable? Can I purchase new ones or do you think I should return the entirety. I would really like to avoid returns as my anxiety kicks in waiting for refunds and replacements etc so if possible it not being an issue are these replaceable?

I would return the motherboard.

If you feel it's too much hassle or you really need a system working as fast as possible, you can replace those things with regular screws you can buy from any hardware store.

Just pick something that's thin enough (as thin as those plastic things) and you MUST use plastic washers (rings) on the bottom and maybe on top (if the nut is not wide enough to keep the springs in place), so that metal of the screw doesn't touch the back of the motherboard. If not plastic, any washer that's insulating (fiber glass, wood etc)

Clean the thermal paste from the heatsink (if any) and chipset or whatever the heatsink was on, apply new thermal paste (if there was), insert screws with washers (that insulate metal from the board) from the bottom, and place the heatsink... place springs on the screws and a washer on top to keep the spring in place, then tighten nuts until the heatsink is locked in place and springs are compressed

I would return it because if the board suffered such a mechanical shock during shipping that those things broke, who knows how much flexing the board suffered, what other parts were hit ..

If this was supposed to come new I’d send it back for a new one - clearly that heatsink shouldn’t be loose
