I bought a new cpu, mobo, ram. From an old Core 2 Duo e8500 to an ryzen 3 2200g, and it was a BIG diffrence in performance and i dont regret anything of it. Tho now after maybe 6 months of having it im thinking about upgrading in the future when 3rd gen Zen comes out. My mobo is the Asrock a320m-hdv r3.0. Now im wondering what kind of cpus my mobo supports. On the site i bought it from it says it only supported 1st and 2nd gen ryzen 3 cpus, but on other sites with the exact same mobo it says it supports ALL ryzen cpus while on some other site it only supports all ryzen 3 and 1st,2nd and 3rd ryzen 5. I know all ryzen cpus use the AM4 socket but im still lost on what kinds of cpus my mobo supports. And if i do happen to get a cpu my mobo doesnt support what could happen?

afaik that mobo supports all Ryzen 3 CPUs, but you really shoulnt have bought an A320 board. if you were to go for Ryzen 3k. i would suggest getting a new board if the budget allows. A320 boards were very poor in terms of build qualiy.

the 5-20$ you saved on buying that board wasnt a great course of action.

but on the bright side you should be able to update BIOS and slot in a new CPU.

I wouldn't put any Ryzen CPU into that motherboard tbh because that board is very trashy.

Main system: Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Asus TUF Gaming B650-Plus / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 32GB 6000Mhz / Zotac RTX 5090 SOLID OC/ x2 WD_BLACK NS770 2TBs/ Corsair HX1000i/ NZXT H5 Flow

Yeh i know that board is bad, and ive actually thought about getting a better mobo, but my budget isnt really the best. So the most i could do is get a new cpu. sadly. I WILL get an upgrade too, but i thought since i probably wont OC my cpu i could go for an non OC mobo.

do you even need an upgrade?

what GPU are you running. the 2200G is plenty fast for a lot of hardware.

Could i fix it by any chance? maybe Bios update or flash bios or something like that?

you would need to BIOS-update before slotting the new CPU in. and the BIOS has to support the new CPUs.

Well yeah you just have to update your bios to support a new gen cpu.  Get a new motherboard though.  Yours is not great and it would cost less than $80 for an adequate b450 or b350 motherboard.

🙂

I dont really need an upgrade right now, im just thinking about the future. Dont get me wrong, the cpu is great, its only that i feel like i want a better cpu, for multitasking and other things. And im running a xfx rs rx 480 4gb (hella hot and loud). I should just wait until the new 3rd gen Zen cpus comes out and see if Asrock releases a bios that supports ANY of those new cpus. But if it dont support any of the new cpus i am going to get a new mobo and cpu too.

ASrock has confirmed they will be supporting their A series boards, but i would be more concerned about upgrading the GPU.

get an Asus Crossair VI x370 on the used market then.

because you will need to have around 300$ for it to be a worthwile upgrade based on what we know.

The gpu is great, even for new titles today, and i got the gpu for about 1 month ago too, so upgrading it rn isnt an option, and i dont really notice anything wrong with the gpu, other than its hot and loud...

They will because amd said so when they released the am4 platform.

Well if you're already getting a $100 cpu (because if youre not rich you shouldnt be getting an r7 and r5s are really inexpensive), wait another 2 weeks for the next paycheck and get a better motherboard

well thats what i meant, i aint really that rich to upgrade mobo and cpu, so i wondered if my mobo would support the new 3rd gen cpus, and if it do support i would first buy the cpu then a new mobo.

I mean i could instead get an ryzen 5 or 7 instead of the NEW 3rd gen cpus, im guessing the old r5 and r7 will go down in price pretty drasticly when the 3rd gen comes out, and if they do i might get one of those and then later get a new mobo

Ok then you should get one.  I'm a teenager too and I work once a week.  Save up birthday/present money or whatever if you want to upgrade your system.  It doesn't have to be now, but if you're looking for the future, its smarter to upgrade other parts of your system to make it more smooth and not like a gpu heavy or cpu heavy system.. Balance it out, and you should get a new mobo whenever you do get a new cpu

🙂

That's way smarter especially if you say you don't have a lot of cash
