Hi Everyone, So I'm looking into a building a small form factor PC for Video Editing. this is the build I'm currently looking into building. Do you guys have any recommendations for alternatives? I plan to edit 1080p video in Da Vinci Resolve.

I'd spring for a hex-core CPU if you can afford it, but above all dedicated graphics. Trying to edit on iGPU is a world of hurt.

Screwdriver specs: Long, pointy. Turns things. Some kind of metal.

Where is the video card ?  Also if your doing rendering the Ryzen 5 2400G will fall or come short.  Also note Zen 2 is coming in July which means Zen 1 prices will fall down and you can affort a 6 core or even 8 core.  Also like the above chap said don't bother with a iGPU , You need a dedicated video card.

Yes, I live in the US. The nearest micro center is an hour away, and make the case a slim mATX case and you got a deal.

It took me a while as I had to research Da Vinci Resolve. If you are not in a hurry, I would wait for Computex on the 28th to find out about the new Ryzen 3000 chips. The new chips may not be available until about July however (based on rumors.) The danger in waiting, however, is that the Ryzen 1000 chips may be depleted by then. If you need it now, however, this would be a great build. Use the Crucial for your C-drive, Windows 10, programs. Use the Intel for cache, projects, videos, photos, documents, all data of any kind. Unlikely you will find a suitable slim mATX case that is well constructed and fits the budget. Besides, most slim mATX cases are less than 100mm wide and a full height gpu is generally at least 135mm tall.

You are sacrificing a lot of processing power to get an SFF package. Have you considered a used or refurbished notebook?

Da Vinci Resolve is primarily processed by the GPU and secondarily by the CPU (opposite of Adobe Premier Pro.) That's a huge step down from the RX 590 to the RX 550. You've also stepped the CPU down.

I don't have a recommendation. The problem is that the budget, size restrictions, and intended use require serious compromises. Making all the compromises inside the case results in a tool that will likely be inadequate for the intended use.

 

Ideally the budget would be higher.

You might consider a build like the following. It should have better performance than the last one posted. The cpu is multithreaded and reasonable clock speed. It would be better with an RX580 or higher, but it may be possible to have Resolve use both the RX and iGPU.
