Hi all, I am planning to build a new gaming PC in the next 2-3 months that would hopefully last me a long time.

Currently, I have a pre-built PC that I bought 3 years ago and while it performs well on e-sports titles like CSGO and League, it doesn't perform as well in more demanding games without lowering the graphics settings.

My current PCs specs are:

CPU: Intel i5-6500 3.2GHz

GPU: GTX 1060 6GB

RAM: 8GB HyperX Fury DDR4 2133MHz

I am from the UK, and I have a budget of around £1500. With the new build I will be playing games such as AC Odyssey, AC Origins, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Witcher 3, BO4, Apex Legends, etc.

I have two 24" 1080p 144hz monitors from ASUS that I currently play on. I play on one monitor and the other is for stuff like chrome and discord.

My aim for this build is to be able to play the games listed at 1080p 144hz with high/max settings while getting (or close to) 144 fps to get the most out of my monitor. I do plan to get a 1440p 144hz monitor in the future, but not any time soon.

I'd also like to be able to OC my CPU since I am not able to do so with my current PC.

I have picked out some components using pcpartpicker: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/fhtYkd

CPU: Intel i7-8700K

Cooler: NZXT Kraken X62 Rev 2

Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-H Gaming ATX

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z RGB 2 x 8GB DDR4-3200MHz

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB Hard Drive

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2070 8GB Windforce

Case: NZXT H500i

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W

As for an SSD, I currently have a 500GB Samsung SSD from my current PC that I will be using in the new build.

I have also made partpicker lists using the same components but with a 2060 and 2080.

2060: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/GX9ZNQ

2080: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/rY9ZNQ

Currently, I am leaning towards the 2070 build because since it is closer to my budget of £1500 and the 2080 would be overkill for 1080p 144hz (i think).

One thing I'm not sure about is whether to go for the newer i7-9700K instead, but looking at reviews the i7-8700K seems to perfrom just as good for a bit less money.

Any advice on my component picks would be appreciated, I am open to changing these to allocate for a i7-9700K or perhaps a 2080 as long as it doesn't get too pricey :)

Thanks

I recommend waiting, if you can, to see what happens at Computex (Zen 2).. It's at the end of the month..

@Herman Mcpootis is on to something here.. If you like that setup, I wouldn't wait.. That's actually pretty solid..

@Herman Mcpootis @ch3w2oy what do you think of this setup? I changed two things:

1. Swapped the Radeon VII for a Zotac 2080. It is about £20 more expensive but performs better and I like to record my gameplay using Shadow Play.

2. Swapped the case for a H500 since I really like that case.

It does come at a total of £1550 but it is something I'd be willing to spend.
