Depends on what you need. But for what I use, all available from https://ninite.com/

  • Web Browser: Firefox
  • Messaging: Discord
  • File Compression: 7-Zip
  • Media:
    • Audacity for audio editing
    • Winamp for music playing (I have certain plugins), otherwise Foobar2K is a good alternative
  • Plain text editing: Visual Studio Code, though Notepad++ is a good alternative
  • Imaging: Paint.NET
  • Utilities: WinDirStat

Things not available on Ninite that I use

  • Video player: MPC-HC with madVR
  • PDF reader: Microsoft Edge (yes, the actual web browser)
  • Virtual CD/DVD: I've used Virtual CloneDrive, but if it's an ISO, Windows 10 natively supports mounting it.
  • Hardware monitoring: HWMonitor
  • GPU tweaking: EVGA Precision XOC (should work with any NVIDIA card, otherwise MSI Afterburner is a good alternative)

I agree with most of everything above ^

But for the PDF reader, I'd suggest Foxit Reader instead(just don't install their extra crap... easy enough to Decline them during installation).

That way you can actually open your PDFs in your browser of choice, instead of having to use Edge. (If you use firefox, there's an extra addon required)

And for the media player, I also use MPC-HD, but I get it from K-Lite Standard, that way you have every codecs needed for nearly every audio/video out there.

(As for the web browser, that's subjective. I like Vivaldi, for example)

Seriously, applications on a PC is up to your specific needs. You don't have to get everything someone else is using.
