So i want to run unraid with plex, a seed box, a nas and mac os and was wondering if there was any way to run it in a small form factor like the intel nuc. Speed would not be much of an issue, i was more inclined towards the small factor aspect of the server. Do you guys have any suggestions for me?

The idea was to run them all in one server and the intel nuc seemed the best to achieve this. Unraid to manage resources and compartmentalize everything into separate vms. My question is can this be done in such a small factor? And the mac mini isn't really that good of an option.

what do you need the the mac vm for? If you don't need a video out, it should run on about anything, but graphics performance will be awful.

The nuc should be fine.

many other linux distros can run vms just fine and use the same code under the hood.

I need macOS for light editing with Final Cut Pro X like 1080p 30fps max and for me to use it to program different applications like iOS ones that use swift. And besides unRAID what other linux distros are out there with the same kind of capability?

How are you planning to add storage? You going to have a sshd in it, or using a USB drive?

A nuc seems a bit to small for storage..

I was planning on using an external storage device from USB like a 4TB one because an M.2 ssd or sshd is expensive.

The USB storage will be pretty slow and scrolling through a timeline will be pretty rough. Not sure what RAM capacity the NUCs come in, but if it is too low you may not be able to allocate enough to the VMs and Unraid. Would a mini-ITX build suit your needs? They can be pretty small and get you all the horsepower you need to not be frustrated with the performance.

Yeah that would be great bun can you recommend a build or do you have something in mind?
