So is the am4 platform still suferring from same memory support issue or have they resolved it? I have a x470 ultra gaming but I don't know if I should buy 3000mhz module?? Cause what if it doesn't work on the rated speeds. It is hard to find samsung b die chips here so I would have to go with the hynix or micron rams. But before purchasing I want to make sure that is it right time or should I wait for ryzen 3000 series and maybe then the support will get better for my mobo?

What do you mean memory support issue? RAM speed compatibility is typically at the mercy of the motherboard manufacturer and AMD or whoever has no control over what happens.

That was just at intial launch. Its been for all intents and purposes resolved with subsequent updates to the BIOS coding. Sure there are some out there that may or may not work 100% out of the box without some tweaking, but its far from the horror stories from the launch back in 2017.

I will have to test it out now I suppose.

Well it actually is on Amd. All modules work great with intel supported motherboards from the same vendors(msi, gigabyte etc) but they failed to make it work on Amd platform.

Digging around deeper, the only thing that would point to this is if you were trying to use XMP, which is an Intel based standard. So it would make sense to tune the RAM for Intel based systems rather than AMD ones.

But there's nothing stopping you from tweaking the RAM yourself. XMP is just an easy to to set the parameters. On my last system, despite the motherboard being compatible up to DDR4-3200, it couldn't set my DDR4-2666 RAM to that speed using XMP. Instead it floated around some odd number like 2500. I found out if I disabled XMP and just set the RAM speed itself, it worked.

Giving up the convenience of xmp and fine tuning yourself does almost always from my understanding allows you extract more from the chip... My 3200mhz 16 18 18 38 kit runs fine at 3333mhz 16 18 18 36 for instance... Then again it's in Intel...

Actually, AMD is to blame.  The things mobo manufacturers can change on Intel platforms -- AMD has locked down.  So that's a big reason why Intel has better memory support.

I would like to think this only affects you if you're trying to really push the RAM.

The point to be made is that motherboard manufacturers cannot tune their AMD boards like they can with Intel.  So it impacts everything.
