So I am planning on building a rig next month, but I'm not sure what CPU to choose, I have narrowed it down to 2 choices but Ive got a budget I need to stay within, so I have the choice between the Ryzen 5 1600x and the 2600, BUT, if I pick the 2600 I'll be using the stock cooler and doing a small overclock if possible, and if I pick the 1600x I will be able to get a bequiet pure rock slim Cooler for it, and do a larger overclock, but is it worth it or will the 2 be pretty much indifferent?

Note, the motherboard I've chosen is the Asrock steel legend, so overclocking shouldn't be a problem.

Also if you have time, should I get the 580 8gb or 1060 6gb, they are almost the same price so just based on performance?

Thanks

The pure rock slim isn't worth it as a replacement for the wraith stealth, I say just go for the 2600.

The 580 is usually slightly cheaper than the 1060, what models are you comparing? Are you using pcpartpicker to find good prices?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

If you absolutely cannot wait the couple months or so for Ryzen 3000 CPUs to launch, then I would go with the 2600. Cache improvements, better RAM compatibility and less latency will help the 2600 outperform the 1600X even if you OC the 1600X quite a bit.

Out of the two GPUs I would go with the RX 580. There is no more purpose for a 1060 nowadays, with the GTX 1660, RX 570, and 580 existing.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

Okay I'll probably go with the 2600 then, and Yeah I'm using pcpartpicker the models are the rx580 msi armor 8G OC and the 1060 msi gt ocv1 and they are the exact same price.

Do you think there will be a 3000 series that's a similar price with better performance that is worth waiting for?

iirc there was a motherboard testing sample for the AIBs that was a 4/8 at 4.5ghz. That's probably the low-end chip.

Additionally there's new rumors that a Ryzen 3200G was delidded to hit +300mhz and +320mhz (GPU?) with no change in heat at stock voltge.

So i don't imagine that would slot into a price bracket above the current Ryzen 3, so Ryzen 5 should be 6/12 still at similar clocks.
