Hey Guys,

Got a funny issue with my PC. So I am downloading a zip file about 3Gb in size. when downloading I can see that the downlaod speed is around 250-300 KB/s. which is really odd as it should be closer to 8-9 MB/s based on my internet speed. I then opened steam / Uplay and MS website and set some downloads to run off them and they all ran at the ~9 MB/s as expected. I thought maybe the server I am downloading from has some kind of band with issue. I then connected my Laptop via LAN to the same LAN cable that was connected to my desktop to check. and WOW suddenly that file was downloading at ~9MB/s this was really odd. I though maybe it could be my AV. So i disabled my AV on the desktop and no difference in download speed. I then decided to connect my Desktop to my 4G hot-spot to test and the file also started downloading a lot quicker closer to the speed of my 4G. So i thought maybe the issue is with my LAN driver or something line that. So i connected the Desktop to my WIFI the same as the Laptop and no speed difference it was still stuck at around 300KB/s. I also uninstalled the Network driver and re downloaded it as well as tried a USB network adapter all of these do not fix the speed issue.

So the speed is fine on 4G hotspot on the desktop and it is fine on the Lan and Wifi on the desktop. I have really never seen anything like this. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing it. Anything I can test or do.

Thanks !

Please see attached Picture. This is me downloading MS SQL 2014 Express at around 2.3 MB/S ( Normal speed for peak time) and me downloading the zip file at the same time at 230 KB/s . as noted above if i go to 4G hot-spot on my Desktop then the Zip file is a lot close to the 1.5-2 MB/s the speed of the 4G i get at home.

My guess is your ISP is routing the data packets through some peers that are congested or have issues

Also, if you're in Australia ... it could be that CDN has fewer locations in Australia or serves that file only from US or EU locations ... Microsoft has more money and they'll serve you that file from Australia.

From a dedicated server in Holland, I get 11MB/s+ ...

But what does not make sense on the same network ie i connected 2 PC. both are set to download the file. the desktop refuses to go above 230 KB/s while the other PC goes at full speed. I have checked that both PC's are connecting to same external IP to retrieve the file.

Also this is something recently that has happened. i have noticed it on other sites as well when i download file that it is not at the max speed it used to be. but gain once on 4G hotspot the speed is fine. something on the machines or the router is limiting the speed some how. just not sure why or how.
