Sunfire X4150 sata drives?

Hi, so I've just bought this

It says in the description that no HHD caddys come with it. My question is can I still use normal 2.5/3.5 SATA drives with it if I getto rig them in without caddys, will I need separate connectors/cables if I use SATA drives or can I only use SAS drives? Thanks guys

That is a pretty old server, and will be very power hungry, so if you care about power usage, it will be cheaper to buy a newer server or a desktop.

 

Its a 2.5in drive server, so no 3.5 drives are going in.

 

You can't really fit the drives without the caddies, you can try to force it in and use tape as a pull tab, but normally just buy the caddies.

 

You can also use external drives over something like a external sas expander.

It takes SAS/SATA drives, but i think you might find pretty poor LBA support on such an old server/controller, so you might only be able to use a max of 2TB drives
