Help me upgrade CPU

Hello, I'm looking for a new CPU to pair with GTX 1060 6GB. Currently I have i5-4430 and its bottlenecking this GPU.
I'm thinking about i5-9400F or AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, (if you think there are better choices let me know).
Also to make any of these CPU's work I'd need a new motherboard too because the one I currently have has this old LGA1150 socket and only supports DDR3 RAM which means that I'll need new DDR4 ram too.

What I'm asking you is to help me choose a new CPU/Motherboard/RAM which together would not exceed 350 as I currently can't spend more than that.

My current setup:
GTX 1060 6GB
16GB RAM
i5-4430 @ 3.00
250GB SSD / 1TB HDD
Asus B85M-G

You could also go with say a 4770/4790(k) used and not have to worry about getting a new motherboard, cpu and ram. I've got a system running SLI 980ti's with a i7 4770 playing at 1080p on a 144hz display. I've to see a bottleneck with that set up yet.

Are you only gaming on a 1080p 60hz display?

If so I'd try and wait for Ryzen 3000, which should at least get news soon, if nothing else it will probably have 4.5ghz $99 6 core CPUs

That i5 should still be good for 45-60fps in most games, what games have issues?

Doesn't give any real advantage unless the games use more than 4 threads, clock speeds are about the same, unlikely to be worth it unless it's close to free

Eh it's more worth it imo as it gives the OP more time to save up money to get what they want for a new CPU/Board/Ram. Plus with most modern games taking more of an advantage with more cores/threads. It would be something I would recommend they look into personally. I've got from Haswell to Coffee Lake for Intel Z series CPU's and boards. I still find haswell a lot more capable then people give it credit it for with the i7's.

Yes all I need is to run games at 1080p60fps, my current i5-4430 kinda sucks nowadays since most of the games I play doesnt run steady at 60 fps (and i can't stand that..) games like Rust,Dayz,PUBG goes below 60 fps very often which is why I wanna upgrade to a better CPU. Also I wouldn't like to wait for  4-5 months to buy these new Ryzen CPU's since there are many options to choose even today.

I don't think any of those games are well optimized or run well in general, but just check CPU benchmarks for them.

Otherwise what's your budget/country for new stuff?

A Ryzen 7 1700 is $160 in the US right now, hard to beat for overall value.

In that price range and the two options listed I would say go for the 2600x the 9400f is just as good stock but is beat by the 2600x because it can be overclocked and has much better multi core performance and a higher thread count, but I would wait a couple months for Zen 2 to drop and check out what the 3000 series has to offer. If you need something asap I'd say go for the 2600x. I personally wouldn't put money into buying another 4th gen CPU, once you do that you're stuck there. It's honestly not worth it over upgrading to a modern cpu and motherboard which will be compatible with Zen 2 when it releases so you could even upgrade to that in the future.

Ryzen 7 1700 is around 168, i5-9400F 179€, Ryzen 5 2600 167€.

I know these games are optimized very badly, but even on a 10 year game like world of tanks I sometimes drop below 60fps in areas where a lot of action happen.

Also I've checked Ryzen 7 1700 has a pretty bad single thread performance, pretty much the same as my current 4430 isn't that kinda bad?

Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4 3000 MHz C15 XMP 2.0 High Performance Desktop Memory Kit, Black

AMD Ryzen 5 2600X Processor with Wraith Spire Cooler - YD260XBCAFBOX

on amazon this adds up to £354, im also getting this

The 2600 is a bit better for gaming unless you really need the 8 cores.

And don't forget that you'd be overclocking the R7 1700 to around 4ghz, so it's more like an 1800X.

Pretty much what I posted too, except the Aorus Elite is an ATX board and OP is looking for a replacement Micro ATX board so the Aorus M is the best Micro option in that price range.

Honestly I'm so confused people still say that Intel still gives better performance (single thread too). the only thing that prevents me to not get i5-9400f is that I need a Z390 Mobo which is more expensive than the others. I know that other mobo's which supports 8th generation of intel cpu's can also be paired with 9400f they just need to get the latest BIOS update if I'm right, but Im not sure how would I buy the updated one

Haven't overclocked anything in my life , not sure how it works and all. Also if overclocking you'd need a good cooler then?

You just open Ryzen master, set the voltage to 1.375V and the frequency to 4ghz - 4.3ghz depending on what generation of chip it is.

Id get on AM4 100% for the upgrade path. Intel is faster in gaming, but that gap is only wider when it comes to overclocking their chips to 5ghz. If Ryzen gets 100fps in X game Modern Intel will be at around 120fps+ for a rough idea

Any of the $25 air coolers like the Gammax 400 or Freezer 33 are fine for overclocking ryzen

Yup, B450 or X470 is where it's at if you're building a Ryzen system right now and want to upgrade to Zen 2 in the future.

Just get a gigabyte B450 Aorus board and you have a decent VRM for upgrading later as well.

@exon654 Sorry if you already saw this but it's a solid upgrade and in your price range, I'm an Intel nut and if I was working with your budget and was in your situation this is what I would do, plus you can upgrade to Zen2 when it launches if you want. If you had maybe $150 more on top of your budget I would say go for an i5-9600k, but you don't and the 9400f isn't worth it over the 2600x.
