Bad RAM

Does bad ram will destroy the RAM slot? I just bought a samsung ddr3 ram from online recently and when I plug it into the laptop it just won't detect it.

Then i try my old 4 gb ddr3 ram to check if it can works and found out that it does not work.(Laptop). So far I have done it on two laptop and it is the same result.

I don't think both laptop ram slot is not working from the start. (First RAM slot of both laptop is built in, and I cannot test on it)

Is there any other way to test whether the RAM slot is working?

I am appreciate for any advice and suggestion given. Thank You

it depends on what is wrong with the RAM
but typically you only destroy slots by improperly installing RAM or booting the system without the RAM fully seated.
