Issues With Card + 4K Display Combination

UbuntuBuddy

Hey everyone!

I'm hoping someone can help me figure out why I'm having this issue. First, here's the pertinent information:

  • Ubuntu 18.04
  • AMD Ryzen 3 1200
  • ASRock RX 570 8GB OC
  • TCL 43S405 TV
  • Running stock drivers for GFX card.

Here's the issue: I can't get anything above 1080p to display on the TCL; any time I try to go above 1080p (both "lesser 4K" and true 4K), the TV thinks there's no signal. I've tried everything I can think of to make it work. I tried reducing refresh rate to 30Hz, I tried the optimization for TV setting...nothing. I even tried connecting it via DVI to HDMI. The 570 has no problem displaying 3440 x 1440 @ 60Hz on my 34" UW monitor. I know it isn't an issue with the TV. My Windows 10 machine (RTX 2060) runs it at 4K @ 60Hz using the same HDMI cable and the same exact input. That narrows it down to either the graphics card or Ubuntu. What am I missing here?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I'm guessing Ubuntu, it's not really optimized for higher resolutions or newer graphics technologies (i.e. HDR) so I would try to run it with a free version of windows and downloading the ubuntu thing from the store.
