I got bored and started to play around with some old 1997 PCs and I started to play around in the bios. Long story short I hooked the DVD drive into the hard drive cable and I've been trying to use a 4.7 gig DVD RW as the main drive. Does anybody know anything that could help get this working?

HDDs and ODDs use same data cable. It was IDE before SATA. Floppy uses different cable, but you can't match that physically.

You could run OS from disc, but only as "live" edition. Several Linux distro's do this, though you may need to look at older versions.

You can't use standard writable/rewritable DVDs (DVD-R, RW and the + variants) but you could potentially use a DVD-RAM disc as a practical storage drive.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!
