I hope?   Anyone else out there have ATT fiber optic service?  We are with comcast and their service has been so intermittent .  They keep sending technicians to do little band aid fixes and they never address the root cause.  The cable network where we live dates to the 1980's.  We had our MTV... now we can barely get a signal

Is ATT fiber at least reliable?

We've signed up because we're fed up with comcast.   Until things are really installed this can always be reversed.  Is it just horrible or is fiber all that great?

I've got AT&T Fiber here and it's been good for the most part. There's service cutouts on rare occasions but it's probably much better than Comcast.

If it is out like once a week on Sunday night at 12 - 2 AM that would be great.    With Comcast it has been a long period of them denying that they need to upgrade their physical network in our area for a decade.  They were able to give us rock solid 25 or 50 or 150 Mbps ... but pushing Docsis 3.0  250, 300 gigabit + TV over vintage 1984 co-ax just isn't cutting it.

Let the bidding war begin

It's a little random but it's rarer than that.

I'm gonna assume AT&T did work in your area within the last couple of years, so their lines be FAR newer than whatever Comcast uses for their shit.

We had their DSL in the 90's and 25 MB DSL  until then.  Even if their "fiber" is just really really high speed DSL 300 Mbps DSL from fiber a block away it'll be better.

A little sad since, for so long Comcast was so good.  Shows what happens when a company gets comfortable and greedy. ( Not that Ma Bell isn't  greedy.)

Chicago area?  Because if they are installing fiber to the node if not fiber to the home in a neighborhood like mine.... they will be getting it to almost everywhere.    It may be because .... we haven't had phone service in so long at this point our POTS phone line is like frayed and outdated.  (I mean it like hangs in our yard looking a bit shreeded.)   So they're like ... the fiber is on the pole right there by you so .... here you go.

I've had AT&T fiber for a year now and it's been great. They were quick to install and get everything up and running but of course I did run a copper line for them to terminate directly to the ONT box which helped speed things up but most people who I know who've not done that say it takes a few hours for the install. One guy I know has had a few outages but I know several others who've never had issues, like me. The fiber burial process used to be pretty crap, to put it nicely, but I think they've gotten better :)

Yeah they said it could take four hours  (Just got a text saying it may take 8 hours.  ? I'm gonna have to go to teach and come back) for the install.  I redid my home network to place the 1 gig switch, surge protector phone and cable modem near where the phone lines come into the house.  Had Comcast come out and take one last shot at getting our service right.  (So far so good but still their price is almost double.)   If for some reason ATT is like "dUh we can only install 25 mbps DSL here for the same price beacuse marketing.....*"  at least I'll have a cleaner home networking setup.

*At&t and others in the US have had a bad habit of bypassing communities like mine to serve a different socioeconomic set. This inspite of telecphone company central offices where the fibers originate being in our neighborhoods (they aren't pretty to look at).

Now that I have it I feel strangely sad for good old Xfinity.  All they had on fiber was their fany X1 boxes and ... if one knows tech well enough... the functionality of that is not hard to get back.  On the bright side.. with some real competition in my area 10 gig can't be out of the question.  Live streaming VR anyone?
