Motherboard Decisions

Hi all.

I have a choice of two motherboards: 

 

Gigabyte B85M-D3H

Asus Q87m-e

 

I will be using this with a e3 1220v3. These boards have been chosen for their Xeon compatibility dual pcie slots (x16 and x4) and overclocking ability.

Has anybody had experience with either and is one better than the other? Also is their any known faults

I would get the gigabyte one just because the Asus one is UGLY  also the boards from that generation from Asus were not that great.

 

But you cant overclock on thoughts boards

@ELSknutson @Jurrunio asus actually enabled OC in a recent bios update. Dont know about the gigabyte board tho. Also what do you mean "not that great"?

They were poorly made and had issues and were unreliable

CPU is locked = no OC. Dont know why you consider it anyway

@Jurrunio i know the this cpu is locked but wanted to upgrade to the i7 4790k in the future

1. 4770k and 4790k are still holding up in price, for whatever reason

 

2. By that time mid range if not low end Ryzen CPUs could be just as good if not a better gaming chip than both of them anyway with newer features

 

I myself would go Gigabyte. Better materials there, though neither brand really sucked on LGA 1150 platform
