I am looking for suggestions on what headphones to buy for gaming but also for music and media so I'm not really looking for anything WAY too gaming-centered. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (Just try to keep it under $200)  :D Thanks a bunch

I'll reach away from headsets and recommend the likes of the ATH-M50 or Custom One Pro if you can find them on sale. JVC also has some decent lower cost headphones.

In that case, I would recommend the COPs if you can find them for less than the $200 budget. If you can not, the ATH-M50 would be a great option too. Really, I love my COPs, even though they don't quite fit right (my head is smaller than the smallest size adjustment, but I can not blame them for that. Its in teh DNA.).

Yeah, Beyerdynamic DT990 250 ohm is one of the crowd-favorites here, but with it you'll most likely need some sort of amplification. Your Maximus VI formula has the "ROG" sound, so it should drive the DT990 250ohm nicely. If you don't want those, Sennheiser HD558 are nice. Also, I really like my Shure SRH440 with 840 pads.

+1 for DT990. Absolutely worth it. But after all these suggesstions, you should probably give us an idea of what kind of music you listen to. Do want a nice rumbling bass or maybe a more treble focused headphones? Because that will affect our suggestions :)

Everything I post is based of bits and pieces I've read somewhere else.

I have most likely never tested any of the things I recommend or advise against.

Think of me as a information relay, I read it, process it, then post it.

ATH-AD900x can drop below $200 They sound great and their sound stage is absolutely fantastic. Although if you like listening to a lot of bass heavy music then they are not ther greatest for you as they are more mids than bass but great for rock, jazz and hard rock.

The first step to insanity is believing in your sanity.

The DT990's are open. the mids aren't really what they're known for, they're more about the bass and the highs. There are also the semi-open DT880's, which Logan from Tek Syndicate uses when he listens to metal. Then there's the DT770's, which in reality is a bass-oriented headphone. @Aphexx has a pair and can tell you. but for closed, and general use, I recommend Shure SRH440, with 840 pads if you can (review coming soon).

I've just recently within the week thrown my dt770 back onto the permanent audio out spot on my computer and am kind of unhappy. during the summer I loved the dt770 I was able to game adequately with it and I loved the bass and the different depth within the bass it gave.

for the past month and a half or 2 months I had my ath ad700 in my permanent spot mainly for fps gaming and for listening to ambient edm, jazz, swinghouse and movies. and quite frankly its spoiled me. perhaps I have a defective pair of ad700's but I don't feel like I lack that much in the bass department. its a bit recessed but I don't feel its missing much. and I have some bassy headphones in my lineup the vmoda crossfades lp a shitty corsair gaming bassy headset the dt770 an m50.

everytime I listen to something new in my youtube feed with my dt770's I keep making a poop face this, for example just showed up in my youtube feed and with the dt770's the whispering voices in a subway tunnel sound in the beginning and the 3 minute mark is just barely there in the dt770 the ad700 is way more immersive I can close my eyes and be there.

if I have to say something positive about the dt770 it has the best soundstage of all my closed back headphones
