Ram .. physical and dedicated

Hey, 

So i'm using 4 sticks of 8 GB atm which adds up to the physical total of 32 GB's in total.
The dedicated amount of memory shows 7,9 use out of  36,7 with 4 GB's in use 
When i look at the GPU i notice a shared memory total of 19 GB's of which 3 GB is physically present.

Is the combination of 16 shared gpu with the 4,7 GB extra on the Ram due to the hypertreading effect?   

why don't i see any benefits from the 19 Gb's of videomemory .. or do i ?

Nothing to do with hyperthreading

 

The operating system will use unused memory to cache files and speed up the operating system.

The video card driver noticed you have lots of RAM and configured itself and told the operating system that it may use up to that many GB to increase the video card's memory - it's like the Windows page file.

This doesn't mean those GB are reserved (locked, unusable by anyone else) to the video card, it just means that if you have some game which uses more than 4 GB or whatever amount there is on the card, the video card driver can take stuff from the video card and hold it in those GB of memory and use the space freed to put more important stuff in the video card.

Video games however make an effort to put everything important for the game level you're playing inside the video card memory and reduce to the minimum the copying of stuff from ram to card and back, because it's much much slower for the video card processor to get information from computer's ram instead of the ram on the video card - think of it like the computer RAM being 5-10 times slower, maybe even 25 times slower.

If the video card constantly transfer stuff between video card ram and computer ram, you end up with lower fps.

You're better off just reducing the video quality from ultra to very high instead of using extra ram, you'll get higher fps and practically no noticeable quality loss.
