After updating my SSD is in a frozen state.

Crittybitty

Hello, after doing a update using asus's ez update software my computer will not go past the UEFI Bios window.

After doing some digging I found out that my SSD is in a 'frozen' state so my computer will not recognize my hard drives.

Is there a remedy for this? I've tried everything I can think of and I dont want to erase my hard drive.

My SSD is a Samsung evo 860 500g with a maximus XI hero motherboard.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

Did a bit of googling (actually Duckduckgo-ing) on this.  Looks like "frozen state" is a security feature to prevent the drive from being altered or taken over by unwanted applications/people.  SSDs usually are in a frozen state, but they will open up when needed.  Seems like yours either doesn't, or the UEFI is sending the wrong signals.

A common solution seems to be to unplug the SSD's power and data cables while the PC is on, then plugging it back in 3-5 seconds later.

That being said, every similar problem I found had to do with secure erase problems, not with driver updates.

Are all your UEFI settings correct?  Whatever update you did may have switched your UEFI's drive settings from AHCI to RAID mode or vice versa.  So reset it to optimized defaults and/or go through the whole lot manually.

None of that worked but I did get it to work. I just enabled the CSM which got things back to normal.

Thanks for the help :)!
