Problem ith new CPU

Sins

Hi,

Wanted to upgrade my CPU From i5 6600k to i5 9600k, but some reason PC wont start with new CPU(9600k) only fans spin for a sec. Pc Works fine with 6600k.

Updated BIOS to latest version but still nothing.

Specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170M-D3H

GPU: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1070 AMP

PSU: Corsair CX550M Semi-Modular ATX

RAM: DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB 2400MHz 1.2V

Any suggestions?

This sounds stupid, but try booting with only one stick of RAM. If that doesn't work, try moving said stick around the slots. That has worked for me before.

If that doesn't work, try just resitting everything. You may have dislodged something during the upgrade. Also - check and make sure you have not bent any of the pins on your motherboard

I can't help if you don't quote me. How am I supposed to know if you need my premium support? Now starting at £399.99 a year.

Also, be a sport and mark the correct answer as the correct answer. It will help pour souls in the future when they are stuck and need guidance.

Well from a quick Google search it appears that Z170 boards require modding although I haven't really looked very hard. Your board might require a mod to get your CPU to run

Anyone on the platform feel free to correct me!

Give back the 9600K and live with your 6600K.

The 9600K is not compatible with your Board. It just doesn't work. As do 6k Intel CPUs (usually) not work in Boards that support the 9600K.

You should have looked at the CPU Support and check if the Intel CPU you like to insert into your board is really compatible with your Board.

Intel likes to break compatibility for no reason, like its the case here.

LGA1151 is NOT equal LGA1151!

that does sound stupid, because a 9600k doesn't work with lga1151 v1 boards

You need a board that has Z370, H310, B360, H370, Q370 or Z390 chipset. Z390 works out of the box with 9th gen processors, others may require a BIOS update.

Hydrogen server: Intel i3-10100 | Cryorig M9i | 64 GB Crucial Ballistix 3200MHz DDR4 | Gigabyte B560M-DS3H | 33 TB of storage | Fractal Design Define R5 | unRAID 6.9.2

Carbon server: Fujitsu PRIMERGY RX100 S7p | Xeon E3-1230 v2 | 16 GB DDR3 ECC | 60 GB Corsair SSD & 250 GB Samsung 850 Pro | Intel i340-T4 | ESXi 6.5.1

Big Mac cluster: 2x Raspberry Pi 2 Model B | 1x Raspberry Pi 3 Model B | 2x Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+
