R9 290 direct cu ii

Van Der Shah

When will the R9 290 direct cu ii by Asus be released and how much would it cost? Also, is there any difference in getting a direct cu ii or a MSI twin frozr.

Thanks

The DCUII is released. Im not sure but I think it has been recalled so id check before you buy one but if you got a Twin Frozr it would be just as good. If i were you id go off of price/asthetics.

Well of course their is a difference. Warranty, looks, perhaps performance. I'd go with the Direct CUII over MSI any day of the week though.

As to it's release

I can't see the 290 DCUII released in the UK yet but I'd definitely get it over the MSI 290, it's only £20 more.

There won't be a significant diffirence at all, you can get the TF IV card with peace in heart, just don't listen to Asus fanboys.

If you prefer the DCU cooler, Asus redesign of the power delivery then wait. The 290 aftermarket options are just opening up. Take your time to look and decide.

To be clear, the TF is a good and competent cooler.

If you were by chance referring to my comment. It's from personal experience. MSI warranty support is miserable.

Not quite. I've had amazing experiences with ASUS. I had the same MSI motherboard, the Z77 MPOWER die three times in a matter of 3 months. From over clocking.

So really it does come down to personal preference and prior experience.

I especially liked your toilet example sir.

But to be honest. Asus make more of your business class components, they're built to last. I took a P8Z77-V motherboard over clocked my 3770K to 5.5Ghz on water, than did the same on the MSI Motherboard built for over clocking and it died. So.... They claim their components are built for over clocking but they're really nothing different from your Gigabyte.

I know i went off on a rant about Motherboards. However they're GPU's are as bad, but aren't as good as their ASUS counterpart.

And your Asus product could also fail and get sh*t replacement like litteraly million other people. Warranty is about luck and even EVGA warranty can be bad. I've used MSI stuff for maybe 10 years now and haven't had any major issues whatsoever.

Right, and I used MSI motherboards and graphics cards in my computers for a long time and haven't had any issues, my sis had an Asus laptop and it died after half a year. I have nothing against Asus, but I do have something against people who elect it above other brands, especially the bigger names like MSI and Gigabyte, even tough their coolers are almost equal, they are made in litterally the same factories and their warranty is the same.

Now on topic, I can't understand why shouldn't he buy the MSI card, when he can get it sooner and probably cheaper, the experience would after all, be 99% the same.

How did you do that?  A guy in TS had a stable 5.3GHz OC on a 2600K on air no problem.  That board is OVERBUILT...

If your talking about gigabyte's card I'd have to disagree with you there. We run a gigabyte card at our house and I know some people who own gigabyte cards and they're quite happy with them.

Don't get the DCU2 290/290x, they cut cost by using heatsink that was design for GK110.

radeon-r9-290x-cooling-case,X-W-415940-2

Asus' R9 290X DirectCU II OC has a bit of a problem; its cooler was actually designed for the larger GK110 GPU on its GeForce GTX 780 Ti board. You can see this in the image below, where two of the heat pipes don't tough Hawaii at all, and two others make partial contact.

I should think that ASUS done some research and didn't stick whatever heatsink they had laying about.

Anyway back to the OP, I would go with the MSI as they are generally quieter than ASUS when at load but I'm a freak when it comes to noise.
