I'm looking for a cpu for a birthday build, I plan install a few games and a emulator for a kid.

Games : apex legend, fortnight, pubg, smite, overwatch, cod, csgo, rocket league and star wars battlefront (his favourite)

Emulator : Xbox, ps1,2,3,Nintendo wii, wiiu, snes(Mario games and super smash bro series),

I was thinking would a Ryzen R5 2400G and it's igpu would be enough for 1080p 60-80fps with these games.

The 2400g is decent on non demanding titles at 1080p but i would defenetly pick a discrete GPU for Apex, PUBG etc.. Something like a used 1060....

no problem for the apu graphics to handle all emu you listed.

but ps3 emu is quite cpu demanding , using over 9 cores. depends on what games you want to play.

Not sure on xbox as most have ported to pc.

How long can you wait? zen2 apu may suit you well, rumored to be 8c/16t 20cu

O.o 8 cores? I'm guessing with that apu not many people will be getting a low end gpu.

His birthday is in May I just hope before then.

The 2400G isn't usually worth it over the 2200G, not much performance gains in games.

The 2200G would be fine for those games on it's own with at least 3000mhz RAM and a proper board with VRM cooling, like the ASrock Pro 4, or Gigabyte Elite B450 boards

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

That's exactly the opposite of what hardwareunboxed has demonstrated recently. Current knowledge is that it's worth paying extra for the SMT.

Not if the price difference is like $50, because you can get an R5 1600 or R7 1700 instead depending on the region, and just get a used GPU or save up a bit more for the long term build.

I think at the time of his video last week there was a $30 difference, but yes 1600 is also a good option if it's about the same cost as a 2400G. I would recommend a dGPU for this build regardless of the CPU.

Buy a used RX 470 or RX 570, it would do better than a 2200g or 2400g

If that would kill your budget, go with an Athlon 200ge that's around 50-60$ and just ignore the integrated graphics - you'd still get more performance than the integrated graphics.

Not worried about budget both my mom and his dad paying for the build.
