My PC consists:

mobo: auros gaming 5 wifi x470

gpu: gtx 1080

cpu: ryzen 5 2600

ram: corsair vengeance 16gb 2666hz

psu: evga 800watt

-my dream is gaming at 144hz. i kinda hit that mark in a game like rainbow six but just barely. my friend recently finished his build w a cheaper budget and is somehow reaching just as much if not a little more in fps. not to mention im in medium to low settings on rainbow to even hit this mark. he's in max graphic settings and hitting avg 160 fps while i'm hitting avg 130. nonetheless, it’s frustrating bc i feel like my computer is capable, im just not able to hit those high marks or able to game with high graphics without losing a lot of fps.

His specs:

mobo: b350 tomahawk

gpu: gtx 2060
cpu: amd ryzen 5
ram: vengeance lpx 3000
psu: insignia 550

atleast 2800hz

sounds like you aren't sure what speed your ram is running at, which can make all the difference.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

it’s running at 2666. can that really make a difference?

Absolutely, that's significantly slower than 3000 and when you're trying to reach those really high frame rates on Ryzen, overclocking the ram helps loads.
