Renaming files makes them useless

Go to solution Solved by WiiManic,

Under folder options, make sure "Hide Extensions for Known File Types" is ticked if you don't want that.

Hides the .exe .rar .mkv etcetc

So I went to rename a movie last night and after I entered it the movie became a file that I can't use with anything... I notice this only happens if I don't put a file type e.g avi, mkv, mp4 in the file's name. Never happened before so would anybody know why it's happening?

Dont remove the extension when renaming? Are you still using xp or vista?
