is 2666 mhz ram speed enough?

im planing to switch my 3200mhz trident z 32 gb to 32 gb of corsair vengeance pro 2666(cause im rearanging and put custom loop in)  and was asking if the speed is gonna influence anything? i know you need ram to open multiple programs but what has the speed for a porpose(grammar isnt my strong suit im german sry)

edit: cause the 2666 are 188€ but the 3200 are 268€!

If you have intel don't even bother. If you have ryzen you can try overclocking or just get the faster ram. For ryzen faster memory can give you better performance, but you might be able to overclock it that high.

Anything over 2400 is good, with varying levels of gains the higher you go.  You'll lose a few FPS in games but nothing catastrophic. Probably 3-5 FPS from the comparisons I have seen.

why not get the 2666 and overclock it?

 

i got my 3200 cl16 sticks up to 3600 cl17

cause i will use a custom loop that sets me back 1200 bucks and i need every dime i can save up! i could sell my 3200 and get the 2666 with some profit

Yeah, not seeing why you need $60 that badly when you've blown $4000 or so.  Good luck on your loop tho!  I haven't ventured there yet.

You can overclock all memory if your motherboard supports it. Which yours does.

its just that i have overblown my pc and bought in the "dont you dare buy pc parts cause everything is overprices" era last year and now want to save up wherever i can

TL;DR gaming: when not GPU bound (1080p), you will notice large FPS losses in some games, and less in others.

Consider how much you can really sell your ram for. You're not going to get like new pricing for it, so the gain to swapping to a lower speed grade might not be as much as you think. If I were in that position, just keep the existing ram and save a little longer if needed to get the other bits.

 

Also, when it comes to ram bandwidth, it really depends on the workload. Personally I run fast ram on Intel systems as they're able to make use of it, where my Ryzen systems can't.
