Alright, let me start by telling you about my current build.

Motherboard: MSI 970A Gaming Pro Carbon

CPU: AMD FX-8370 @4.00 GHz (Hyper 212 EVO Cooler, because it tends to run pretty hot compared to some modern cpu's)

GPU: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

RAM: 2x 8GB DDR3 @2200 MHz (I think)

SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 500GB

HDD: 3x Random hard drives. 2 are 7200 RPM and I think my smallest (250 GB Xbox 360 Drive) is 5400 RPM

This build has been doing me pretty good for quite a few years now, but it's been through quite a lot. I've had it overclocked somewhat stable at 5.00 GHz. Plus PLENTY of extended use during gaming, rendering in premiere, etc.  Lately I've just felt like it's not performing nearly as well as any new cpu would.

Below is what I'm upgrading to, my question is, have I made the right choice?

Motherboard: MSI X470 Gaming Plus

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 @3.00 - 3.7 GHz (Hyper 212 EVO Cooler)

RAM: 2x 8GB DDR4 @3000MHz

Everything else is staying the same for the time being, but have I made the right choice, or was I better off going a different route? (I prefer AMD, because I'm cheap)

If the 2600(x) is near the same price as the 1700 for you, I would aim for that as it's a little better for gaming.. Either way, it's definitely a better upgrade compared to what you currently have..

The 2600x was one I had my eye on, however its somewhat more expensive, not much, but enough to where I'm spending a lot more than I'd like. As is the upgrade is going to cost me nearly $400. I've already ordered the 1700, but if it's really worth cancelling (I ordered it maybe 4 hours ago, so It's probably not even shipped.) I'd cancel it. Would the 2600 be better as well? I'm not mainly focused on gaming entirely too as I do some youtube/twitch stuff and I think I remember hearing more cores are better in that situation. I know it doesn't change gaming performance much, but isn't rendering faster?

(I feel like I sound like a total idiot, I know software, but hardware still stumps me sometimes)

If you already ordered it I would just leave it.. The 2600 would only offer a little better gaming experience but I'm sure the 2 extra cores on the 1700 will help with the other tasks but I'm not exactly experienced in that department..
