found a fairly cheap server/workstation board - intel S5520HC - just going to be used as general Linux/Server box for whatever I wanna use it for,

coming in at around ~70 USD with 2x e5502, going to be putting those on a shelf and probably going to go for 1x Westmere 6/12 or 2x Westmere 4/8, and with some ram to go along with, since I've picked up some extra money every couple weeks and don't want to keep renting a couple vps's if I have something next to me that will do the same job but better as well as possibly make some extra on the side for renting out some of its power to people

good choice or will it eat as much power as my last server?

- hp dl 380 g5, rip my savings the month I had it on -

asked if it would be a good choice to go with it, ill edit post to make it a bit more clear

There likely are some better boards out there.

Even my HP's(ML330 G6) board supports 144GB of memory, this Intel one only supports up to 96GB. That's kind of a niche problem though to be fair, so may or may not be of any meaning to you.

It seems like a decent board overall, though. Especially with X-series hexacore Xeons going for below $20 bucks a pop on Ebay, you should be able to get a pretty decent server running off of it.

thing is, since I'm in NewZealand, I don't really have a big selection of server parts for less than $300 USD often that are newer than 771 and offer to ship on top of everything else, so when I see a cheap server part that is newer than 771 I tend to look at it closely and have a debate in my head about whether to get it or not
