If you must get a dram-less ssd ensure you always have 20%+ free storage otherwise performance will get crushed.

Yeah, I just got it yesterday, installed GTA v and fallout 4 and now I've got an extra 100gb, I might download 1 more game onto it but that'll be it

Hey guys,

So i was going to get the Crucial BX500 ssd today but then i found out that it's 'Dram-Less'. I was going to get it as my current ssd (which i use for GTA V only) was having texture loading issues and couldn't sustain a high read/write speed for too long. So my question is, can the crucial bx500 sustain the read/write speeds it says on the webpage and will it be fast enough to keep the textures loading in gta v?

I don't know if being  Dram-less will change how long it can sustain its speeds for but...

Thanks

P.S the ssd i currently have is the Kingston A400 120gb (it's just for gta v so...).

Are you running the latest firmware on that A400? What does Hard Disk Sentinel say about its health?

DRAM-less simply means the drive has no RAM on it to be used as cache. That means either some system RAM gets used as a cache or there's no cache. In reality, it doesn't really matter. SSD-s that do have RAM on them for cache might show faster speeds till the RAM gets filled, just like regular old hard drives that some had 2MB of cache, some  8MB of cache, some 16MB, some 32, 64 and there are drives that have 256MB or even more (Seagate). With HDD-s, the cache was more important because they're damn slow.

A functional and health A400 has no disadvantages when it compares to pci-e SSD-s if used for storing game files, especially textures. That's not a use scenario that would profit for having something faster than SATA SSD.

Yeah, i've checked it and all, running the latest firmware etc, and it supposedly is at 100% health but the problem is...

When i start up gta v, textures load fine and fast, but after ~15/20 minutes, the textures start to take a long time to load in and then i start getting fram drops.

An A400 is better than a BX500, I would honestly not recommend getting any DRAM-less or QLC SSD, it costs very little extra to get a decent TLC SSD.

And...sorry for talking again but let me just explain prices where i am and see if your opinion changes.

For an ssd that has dram, the cheapest one is $80 (Crucial MX500) and thats for the 250gb version whereas for $79 i can get a 480gb BX500.

The prices for an ssd with dram are ALOT higher than the ones without dram. In my opinion, i should get the bx500 but im just looking for more opinion

P.S I'm meant to be leaving to get in in 1 hour soo...
