So....after almost 4 years I am thinking about upgrading, sometimes in productivity it is starting to show it's age. Key specs of the old system (also in my sig): Xeon 1231v3 on a H97 board with 16GBs of RAM and a GTX970.

Plan is to carry over all my drives (1 SATA M.2, 1 SATA SSD, 2 HDDs) so there's that. Monitor (1440p 60Hz) and peripherals will stay too.

I use my system for video encoding with handbrake, video editing with davinci resolve, 3D-modelling und -rendering with Blender, music mixing with Studio One and Photo Editing with LR, so quite a stretch. I don't do these things all the time, probably 20% of the time, then 10% gaming and rest general usage. My problems are most in the video stuff, gaming (GTA V, Project Cars, such things) is okish, but everything not terrible and unusable so this is much more of a looking for options and performance difference vs cost.

I really prefer silent operation over RGB and stuff, and the pc lives under my desk so I don't care that much. And probably to add, I very very rarely touch the top of 16GBs of RAM so I will for now stick with that, cost for 32GB is for the 2 times I had trouble with too little ram is not worth it for me.

Things I consider:

  • upgrade to a 2700, leave the rest as is. so new mobo, cpu, ram and a new cooler, probably dark rock 4 is aestically (in this case I really prefer it over any other 50€ cooler) and for the performance the one I'm looking for. Shovel everything into the silent base 800 and use ol' gpu and psu.
  • upgrade everything except storage and sell the rest. I'm not that happy with the hdd mount in the silent base, the decoupling doesn't work as well as with the newer bequiet cases, I'm pretty much set on the pure base 600, though other options are welcome as long they are silent even with hdds. I had good experiences with the pure base in the past so.... for this scenario absolut max budget is 1000€ for everything.
  • or leave as is and see what happens in the next year or so. (but that's a point I have to probably decide myself)

component wise I thought about something like that:

though I will order everything from mindfactory.de, prices there are slightly cheaper as it seems than pcpartpicker shows me, coming in at 936€ roughly.

Is there anything better performing for the money? I'd like to have a good amount of usb ports which limits the mobo selection a bit. 8 would be really nice to have but if there are better options with only 6, no big deal.

The fear I have is that the 2600 is not upgrade enough and not worth the money as it effectively only saves me 80€ or so.

I plan on slightly OC'ing the 2700, but nothing outlandish.
