Dropped CPU onto Carpet

I accidentally dropped my brand new i7 8700 onto the carpet from about 3-4 feet from the ground. It was inside the plastic protector and the actual CPU didn't touch the carpet. I quickly picked it up and I opened the protector and nothing seemed wrong with the CPU. Should I be worried?

Also, is it fine to clean the heat spreader with a dry microfiber cloth (I don't have rubbing alcohol) before putting it in the socket when I build my PC?

Intel Core i7 8700, MSI RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio, 16gb DDR4 3000MHz C16, be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4, WD Black 1 tb NVMe, ASUS ROG Strix Z390-E Gaming, Seasonix TX 1000W 80+ Titanium, Fractal Design Define 7 Compact.

You are fine don't worry. Intel CPUs don't have the fragile pins on the bottom plus, it was in the plastic box so, nothing to worry about.

As for the cleaning, as long as there isn't a lot of dust or something like that you don't need to clean an unused CPU.

A quick wipe down with the cloth before putting the paste on is good enough.

Your CPU is fine

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

If there is previous thermal paste on the CPU die check out LTT's video on different solvents you could use.

Thank you for the suggestion but my CPU is brand new, and for some reason I decided to touch the heat spreader and got some oil on it so I used my last rubbing alcohol wipe to clean it. I just wanted to make sure if I could use something dry to clean it before putting it into a motherboard.

Even AMD chips ain't that fragile.  It's not uncommon for people who have bent the pins to bend them back into place.  Credit/Bank cards work wonders for this lol.

That said, if it were open and dropped pin down, there's a chance a static charge could've done damage, but as it's in the plastic, it'll be fine.
