RX 470 Troubles

Hello everyone,

So. Here's some quick backstory. I am building a PC for my little brother and I got him a used RX 470 which was tested and worked fine under full load for 20+ minutes and stayed completely cool. It was a mining card that was quite dirty but it works and it was cheap. I got it back and started cleaning it (should have probably tested it on my PC first before cleaning it because knowing if I'd still be getting this issue before cleaning it would have been good). So anyways, I cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol and a blowing tool. I used a clean brush I only use for pc parts too. One thing went wrong, one of the themal pads got torn up and me having none around, I just jigsawed it up and put it back (while I find a new set of thermal pads). Once I got it all cleaned up (sorta), I plugged it into my pc. Right away no detection, after I installed a driver it has started being detected but it has an error. code 43. So I gotta ask, is the graphics card gone or is it most likely a driver issue. (PS, I did try old and new drivers, also I had a GTX 1050ti in this PC prior to the 470 so could that be an issue?). I'm really hoping it's the later.

Try using Display Driver Uninstaller to clean all the nvidia and AMD drivers. After that, install the AMD drivers.

It was used for mining, it probably use a modified Driver.

After that i recommend you to flash the BIOS just in case the seller use a modified BIOS on the card.

 

Find your GPU Bios in here https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/ And flash the bios using this https://www.techpowerup.com/download/ati-atiflash/ but first you must backup your BIOS using GPU-Z with this feature (just in case)

After that just flash your GPU, its very simple, just open the ATI FLASH and load the BIOS that you've downloaded after that click program and restart your PC.

Now you can install the official driver.

This link, how do I download it after getting that virus detected thing?

Are you using Chrome? go to download CTRL+J and choose keep..or download it yourself the name of the program is atikmdag-patcher.

If it detected as a virus again its just a False Positive.

Mmmm ok, so I have installed a version of framework but now the program doesn't seem to do anything. I double click on atikmdag-patcher-1.4.7 and nothing happens. Is that what's supposed to happen?

No way...that program will fix the error 43 code..after that u can install the driver from AMD..

Hmm. I can click it over and over and get no windows or anything. I'll try installing downloading it again then.

Try to re-install then..it mostly just the driver need to be re-install.

 

But just to be sure you can flash the BIOS it should take no more than 10 minutes..but remember to backup your BIOS also make sure you download the RIGHT Bios for the card u have
