Hey Everyone,

Over the last couple of months I've had a pretty overwhelming urge to upgrade my desktop. I've been running with the same rig for about 5 years. I was hoping upgrading my GPU would satiate my urges, but with some of the new games I bought I wanted to go a bit further. I was running with an Nvidia 660 TI and decided to take a change on the Radeon RX 590 Fatboy (seemed like a good middle with benchmarks between the 1060 and 1070 for a decent price point - open box was only $210). When I bought the new GPU, it came with the new Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 (as well as TC's The Division 2- but I'm probably not going to play that much). I was just hoping to max out what graphics I can in those games. The rest of the rig has

I5 3570k (OC to 4.4 with a $30 fan cooler)

8Gb DR3 ram

Crucial M4 SSD

ASrock z77 pro 4 motherboard

I guess my questions boil down to: Is the CPU bottlenecking me enough to warrant a $400-500 upgrade (new CPU, Motherboard, RAM)? Or should I just drop some money into a better cooler and try to get the CPU OC'd a little higher? How much better are the newest processors if I'm getting what seems like a similar frequency?

Thanks for any help,

         John

Your CPU should be mostly fine for 60hz gaming., especially if overclocked.

Try and wait for Ryzen 3000 in june/july

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

If you are just gaming, and paired to rx590, cpu and ram should be fine in most cases.

check your game usage on these parts, never see a game using more than 12gb ram.
