Does wallpaper engine cause lag?

Does wallpaper engine cause lag? I feel like it uses GPU while in the background... Is there anyway to stop it from moving when I'm not looking at it or if I'm gaming? Thanks for the feedback, I'm thinking of buying it.

Yeah you can set auto pause when it's full screen. Some wallpaper are not optimized
