VR Upgrade Suggestions

So I'm in looking to upgrade my current desktop to improve Virtual Reality performance. That's not to say what I have now isn't a decent system, but I'm in the market to upgrade my CPU and after a several months of on an off research I've done nothing but cause myself more confusion. I'm teasing the idea of upgrading to an I7 7700k, but I honestly fear making the same mistake that I made with a GPU years ago and spending far too much on far too little in results.

As such, here I am.

 

System:
I5 6600k

AIO Liquid cooling

16GB DDR4 ram

Asus Z170-A

GTX 1070 TI

 

I guess what I'm asking is would the I7 upgrade be worth it, or should I look into replacing the motherboard as well for a different CPU that would preform better for the cost?

If you are not in a hurry I would wait and see what ryzen 3000 series brings to the table.

The vast majority of VR games will run perfectly on your current CPU. There's little need for upgrading at this point.
