So when they released the Samsung S10 they said there would be a battery share so if you put your phone on someone elses that would charge it BUT... will there ever be a wireless power so if your PC/Laptop was in the vacinity of a wireless power system in the wall it would turn on power on etc. Do you think that that would be possible in the near future kind of like the Tesla Power house thing

Wireless charging has the issue of being incredibly short in range, so it'd have to be on some sort of surface.

Transmitting wireless power is out of the question considering the amount of power you need to transmit and much of it will be wasted because most of the power doesn't reach the device.

That might work, but you'd still have to park the laptop right there. You can't move it around. It'd make more sense to embed a wireless charger in a table or desk.

In 10-15 years, maybe? We used to think wireless charging was impossible so whos to say they wont find a way

the technology exists up to a certain wattage, but it has major limitations, the further away you get from the transmission source the weaker the power transmission and it happens very quickly, it was actually demo'd at CES back in like 2015, practically it makes little sense in it's current form, even the direct contact charging pads are only like 50% of the power consumed actually makes it into the device, you scale that up higher and you are just blasting out power 24/7, no one wants to pay for that on their power bill, especially with the move to being more power efficient, it's just a massive waste of resources in it's current state, maybe in the future there will be more efficient ways to do it.

here is an article about a more recent unit https://www.digitaltrends.com/cool-tech/wireless-charging-over-distance-barriers/

even when within 6 feet of the unit it's only 10% efficient (1 watt transmitted for every 10 watts consumed) and gets worse as distance increases.
