Does it load if you open task manager and run explorer from there? If it does, as a work around you can add a shortcut to explorer.exe to the Startup folder. Though why is this happening, did you have some kind of malware mess with your system registry?

 

Another thing you can try is a System File Check via command prompt "sfc /scannow" so Windows can correct any corrupted system files should it be the case.
