So my current build is 16gb of ddr3 2333mhz ram, 1tb samsung 960 evo ssd, powercolor r9 380x 4gb myst edtion, and an i5 4590 on a cheap gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H-A motherboard. I really want to get into 144hz gaming so my natural thought was upgrade the gpu. The RTX 2080 is within my budget but then I thought about my cpu and how it might be a bottlneck? Would it be best to get a new motherboard, ram, and cpu? Or can the i5-4590 keep up with the rtx 2080?

In alot of titles that i5 will bottleneck a good amount. What games do you plan on playing? You might be better off doing a combination of GPU and CPU upgrade. Something like a rtx 2060 plus CPU upgrade would be decent for 144hz gaming at 1080p.
