Upgrade Advice

Would this be worthwhile upgrading to (incl. my GTX 1060 until budget increases later in year)?

NOTE: Comes out to about $1130 (Including $100 Australian GST and $30 Shipping)

If that's as much as you're comfortable spending, don't upgrade the CPU (and hence platform and memory) yet. 3rd gen Ryzen will come when, eh, your country gets cooler (i.e. around late April to June, leaks are all over the place other than "it's coming soon"). 4790 isn't that weak.

SSD, sure why not.

I don't like that case, airflow looks bad (front intakes are mostly blocked by that front panel), you might still cool the CPU well with the top fan mounts but the GPU won't be so happy.

Hey Guys, I was just wondering whether or not it would be a good idea to upgrade the below computer or if it would be smarter to wait and upgrade later on when prices changed/go down for other hardware?

Processor: 4th Gen Intel Core i7-4770 3.9GHz
Motherboard: Intel B85 Micro ATX motherboard
RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz in Dual Channel
Graphics Card: GTX 1060 G1 Gaming
Hard Drive: 2TB 7200RPM SATA3/320GB Boot SSD
Powersupply: 650W ATX Power Supply with 120mm cooling fan
Case: Premium Gaming Case with Side Window and LED Lighting

Depends on how long you want to wait and , ryzen 3000 series is coming in about 3 months, so that will be a good option. I don't think Intel's launching anything for a while but I haven't gone hunting for info, so if you don't like AMD for some reason, I don't think they're cutting prices much either, maybe in 3-4 months depending on market forces.

Ram pricing is expected to drop over the coming while, as are ssd prices supposedly.

The processor should still be fine for a low midr-range GPU like the GTX 1060. It's a good combination for 1080p gaming on mid-high setings.

Which exact PSU and case do you have?

Be sure to to quote people, @Jurrunio @Cyracus and @191x7 likely don't know you responded

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad
