hello there

i dont know what cpu to choose, i was planning on getting the ryzen 2600 but turns out i cant afford a gpu right now (i wanted the 1660 ti)

so until i get the money for the gpu i wanted to get an apu, i was thinking the ryzen 2400g, but i realized the 2200g was way cheaper

i dont mind playing with low settings til i get the gpu

but, will the 2200g bottleneck a lot the 1660?

i will be playing at 1080p60hz

Shouldn't be a huge bottleneck. 1660 Ti isn't extremely powerful, but it does have great performance for the price. Just make sure you get a quality motherboard, so if you upgrade CPU later, you don't have to get a better board later.  At the resolution you'll be playing at, CPU will be your limiting factor with any modern GPU.

Primary Rig:

CPU: AMD 7800X3D @ Stock PBO - Mobo: Gigabyte X670E AORUS Master

2 x 48GB G.Skill Trident Z Royal 6400MHz CL32 1.35V @ 6200MHz CL28-37-32-30 1.5V (still tuning)

CPU Cooler: EK AIO that will be being replaced when I get the chance - PSU: eVGA P2 1200W

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 4090 Gaming OC @ either 2595MHz @ 900mV or 2970MHz @ 1070mV

Case: Thermaltake View 91 - SSDs/HDDs: 1 Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, 2 990 Pro 2TB M.2s, 1 990 Pro 4TB M.2, 1 TeamGroup Cardea Z440 2TB M.2, 1 Seagate EXO X10 10TB HDD

Monitor: Samsung Odyssey G9 49" Super-Ultrawide 240Hz Monitor

You will get a locked 60fps with your card which is very good.

The 2200G has only 4 cores and no SMT which means it's only 4 threads. There are modern games out there that can utilize more than 4 threads and those games usually work better on 8-threaded CPU-s, not to mention 12 threads etc.

Get the 2400G. It's stronger when it comes to the CPU performance and it has a stronger GPU too.

but the price isnt impressive , a bit more and you get 2600, no apu of coz

Add the cheapest GPU to the 2600 and it becomes way pricier than a 2400G.

Consider this - the 2400G comes between 1500X and 2500X and the GPU part of it allows for playing modern games.

2400G is not a good value, for casual gaming, 2200G can be enough, providing almost the same performance with much better price. But, I'd push little further for 2600, or 1st gen 1600x with a good cooler. Faster one core clock speed, multithreading. A 2600 with manual OC should suffice for a few years to come, IMHO.

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

If you wait till the new ryzen comes out I bet the price of the 2400g will drop a bit (speculation).
