I want to upgrade my PC for better gaming and everyday use related experience.

I currently have:

  • GPU: Asus Strix 1070 OG
  • CPU: Intel I5-2500k
  • Motherboard: Asus P8P67 DELUXE
  • RAM: 8GB (2x4GB)
  • PSU: Corsair CX650M 80 Plus Bronze

I believe that my CPU bottlenecks the GPU since it's always at ~100% when I start a game and CPU spikes when FPS drops.

I was thinking to buy an I5-8600K with ASUS ROG Strix Z390-E for around 530€ or I5-9600K with ASUS ROG Strix Z390-E for around 560€ (might be less, Amazon prices are confusing right now).

What do you guys think I should go with?
Anything else I should get with the CPU and MB?

The GPU is OK, you'd need to change your platform - the CPU, MBO, and RAM - to something newer. I'd go Ryzen 6C/12T or 8C/16T over a 6-core i5 every time.

I think you should go with Ryzen 5 or 7. If you want to keep your ram to save some money, maybe look for some old x99 boards and cpus.

X99 supports only DDR4. If he really wanted to save some money I would advise getting a 2600k and overclocking it.

After all, Ryzen 3000 is coming and you know what that means. :)

Yep, means we have absolutely no idea what to expect in performance or price or release date ;)  But a high Cinebench score not duplicated by any 3rd party isn't what I'd stake jack shit on.

I do agree with your 2600K advice to save money.

Sorry, I thought supports both, depending on the mainboard. But I think its not wise to buy an i7 2600K and oveclocking it to 4,5Ghz or something, because then you only really get 4 treads and a clock speed increase more, but you still have no PCIe 3.0 support, not to mention the 140W tdp chip you have  when overclocked.

What game is bottlenecking that chip and how much? Your motherboard supports quad channel memory so you could try buying another set of the 2x4gb ram you already have (same model) and running that. Some games require higher memory bandwidth and the only way to obtain that on DDR3 is quad channel. I ran into this issue with a FX 8320 on Battlefield 5. Dual channel 16gb: 40-50fps, quad channel 16gb: 70-90fps. Your i5 outperforms that 8320 so I'd be surprised if any game was actually bottlenecking it.

With all that said, I recommend planning for the future if possible and getting on DDR4. I cast my vote for a Ryzen 2600.

In the past, yes. However, as usual, AMD is a far better value. Intel's best CPU might outperform AMD's top in gaming. but you will also pay a lot more. If a few FPS is worth the cost go for it, but the general consensus is nah.

Yes, Intel has better single thread performance, but Ryzens right now are getting pretty close to that,so the difference isn’t that large anymore. Also, Ryzen is a way better value for money option if you want to do anything else than play games.

I see people mentioning Ryzen 2600, is it good?

I really have no idea of AMD's CPU's. What Motherboard to go with?

Remember that I want to future proof it as much as possible.

It's a great CPU, decent for gaming too.

You may misunderstand future proofing.  It isn't a thing, and if you're upgrading now... it means you didn't do it the first time around either.

Just buy good stuff that you enjoy and worry about the future when it gets here. :)
