Get the rtx 2080 whenever.

 

And wait for Zen 2. Your CPU is still good. No need to spend money on a 9900k

So here's my current rig:

 

CPU: Intel Core i5 6600k

GPU: MSI GTX 980ti

RAM: 16GB Kingston Fury X (2133Mhz I think)

Mobo: Asus Z170-A

PSU: Corsair 750W PSU (don't remember the exact model)

 

I was able to sell my kidney, so now I am planning to get a RTX2080. It will probably be choked by my current CPU though, so I was considering to go all out on that too, sell my soul as well and get an i9-9900k with (obviously) another mobo and maybe some better RAM. Here's the thing though: I can either get the GPU now and the CPU/Mobo/RAM next month, or the other way around. Or I can wait a month and get it all at once.

 

What would you do?

I would upgrade the platform first. Then the GPU.

I would get the GPU first because you can get nice improvement on games even with your current platform.

Zen 2 seems to be coming much sooner than expected 

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

50% more cores (minimum) at roughly the same performance per core at the same or lower price. That is the main advantage.

 

We dont know the exact performance per core, but we know its roughly the same based on the early silicon engineering sample at CES tieing the 9900k (8 core vs 8 cores in cinebench)
