Internet Upgrade

Hi everyone;

I've been a long time watcher of the tech tips youtube channel and forums but first time posting so bare with me if i am in the wrong place!  

Basically as the title says, I'm looking to upgrade the WiFi in the house. To give you some of the details first; it is a two story house. with two landings on the second story either side (Not extravagant just a split half way up the stairs (Imagine an extension over a garage.) there are currently 5 of us living in the house and each of us has at least 2 devices connected to the WiFi. As you can imagine when we are all at home the internet isn't the best in some cases. Mainly the gamer's and Netflix watchers tend to suffer the most. I feel we are not getting the full benefit of our internet.

At the moment we are on Eir Fiber (Ireland broadband provider) with the F1000 modem. this modem is placed on the bottom floor in the hall (Maybe not necessarily the most ideal spot I don't know but the only spot as the DSL cable is there.)

what I'm looking for a recommendation on how to improve our WiFi across the house whether it be by changing out the modem or adding in a second one or what ever may be the case. I don't have much knowledge on the subject but slowly getting my head around it. 

 

I've attached a picture of a speed test I've done. (Not sure if that's device dependent or the WiFi in general)

What speeds are you paying for?  This will identify how much wifi loss there is.

 

Modems can handle 10 devices, it sounds like you just need to increase your plan.

10 would be the minimum connected at any given time. At peak times 2-3 devices could be streaming netflix and 2 gaming devices could be running.

 

I will update when I get that info! I'm not the current bill payer of the household!

With that many users, you'll want at least 100Mbps setup I would think.  It's not the number of devices, it's the people.   Most times devices are just sending small packets back and forth to get notifications for Facebook, Instagram, updates checking, etc.  it's how the devices are used by the people that are the issue, if everyone is watching Netflix at the same time... you'll need a a bit larger pipe.
