So story time. I updated my ram about a week ago with zero problems. Went from 1333 to 2400(went into bios and changed to profile one etc). Everything ran fine for three days till the next upgrade. I changed cpu from the i5 4690k up to a i7 4790k and for about 2 days now i have been having random crashes. I have done everything i can think of to fix this. Temps look fine (will put photos at bottom of cpu zed and IETU) but i ordered a water cooler just to be sure it is not that (h115i pro). The version of the bios is up to date as well. moba is Z97X-SOC-CF at version F7. The crashes are random and to me happen when the cpu is more on the idle side. That being said i did turn on the c states and still crashed at random. I have also took everything apart, put back together, and redid the thermal paste on the cpu. FYI i have also turned the cores down to 4.1 4.1 4.0 and 3.9 for this bench. I have also turned it down again since i have crashed one other time since then. I have also changed some fans around so the idle temp is now at 32-30 range and benched at 4.0 with high temp of 65. Any ideas? Its not blue screen but boots all the way down and restarts to bios asking to load defaults or load in bios.

There's no such thing as a random crash, something is causing it and chances are it's always the same thing in your case.

It sounds like your CPU may just be broken in some way, try running a stress test on it. Where did you buy it? I guess it was used when you got it. Does the CPU show any physical damage?

75% of what I say is sarcastic

So is the rest probably

I am saying random because i am out of ideas. Like right now i am playing apex for almost 2 hours with zero issues. From new egg. Sold by Corn Electronics. as far as i can tell it had zero damage too it. ill system stress for 10 mins and see what happens

What does a typical crash look like on your machine? Do you get a BSOD? Does your system lock up?

System lock up. It terns all the way off the reboots to a screen asking to load bios defaults then reboot or bios.

update passes stress test

Put any setting you touched back to the default in your BIOS, just to rule out every possibility.

I'm putting my money on a faulty CPU, is it still covered under warranty?

I mean i just picked it up three days ago so its covered from new eggs and the third party has a 30 day police. ill reboot in bios and put setting back. Should i leave the ram at haswell stock of what. 1200 mgz or what ever it is for the ram or can i turn that back up to 2400

run prime95 and stress Smallest FFTs, if it doesnt freeze after 30mins run Large FFTs.
