Not yet because jack shit has been revealed of 3rd gen Ryzen outside of "it's coming, eventually".

Once more information comes out, then we can go from there, but I've heard the possibility that 3rd gen Ryzen would work on second gen boards.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

I don't think anyone can tell yet. I'd think all current mobos would nee more power stages for those rumoured parts but honestly AMD keeps surprising us so might as well work with X470 mobos who knows....

Do motherboards have a max core limit?

they don't but they are mostly limited by power draw.

So 12 cores might not work on a 1 8-eps power connector?

Actually we do already know. When Zen launched AMD commited to a single platform for all new generations until 2020, this means when Zen 2 launches it should work in all currently available AM4 boards.

all depends on what these cores run at. But what @Master Disaster said is actually true so I guess your chances are good.

Just seems hard to believe with the numbers thrown around right now.

Not necessarily, Zen 2 is a die shrink meaning less power draw and higher efficiency. It's possible AMD can keep Zen 2 within the same TDP range as Zen 1.

For some reason ASUS says that the X470-F only supports a max of 8 cores

they probably just put that in the documentation because it was the highest core count cpu that was out at the time. OR they had super secret info about AMD dropping 12 core parts in the future but I doubt that ^^

That's probably because 8 is the current maximum possible.

i'd wait for the new boards for zen 2 if you are buying now, but if u HAVE to buy a x470 board it's down to the taichi or the hero.

They should work, but no telling how "well" they would wor, or to what extent support will be.

I would not be surprised at all to see an "AM4+" at some point. Historically, AMD has done this.

Gaming 7 is also great, so is the M7 AC. Asrock bios tends to be iffy. (Built a 1700X system for a friend with a x370 taichi, bios was pretty bad)
