Weird tint on screen

I recently bought a second hand laptop from Ebay, however the screen has an odd tinted band [photo removed for security]. Does anyone know what might have caused this? I don't recall seeing anything like that on a laptop before.

Some of the backlight LEDs are not working.

 

The LEDs go along the bottom of the screen.  You can replace the screen or disassemble the whole screen down to the glass itself and replace the LED strip to fix it.  Or you can just live with it.

Not usually, you would usually lose a pattern of LEDs or all of them in that case.

 

LEDs can burn out after being left on for thousands of hours, because of crap soldering, or even poor quality of the LEDs themselves (bad quality control).

Might be, but there are many possible reasons
