Ok this is kind of crazy. I got a Super Micro 5017c-mtf with mobo p/n X9SCL-F from a thrift store for 10 dollars. They were just going to throw it out because no one knows what it was. It runs amazing, I am going to load Proxmox onto it.

It has a e3-1220 v2 and 8gb of Unregistered ECC ram that is 2rx8. Is it compatible with other ram types like 1rx4 or is that something impossible with the mobo and processor generation?

The reason being that I had a friend offer me 24 gb of ecc ram but it is the 1rx4 and it sucks if it isn't compatible.

The ram part number I have in my computer M391B5273DHO-CH9.

Here she is when I bought her. Whoever owned it previously had the heatsink on wrong and the ram not in dual channel.

Look at the motherboard's test RAM list.  If you do mix RAM, keep RAM the same for each channel.   If might work, you might need to manually adjust timings and it might not work at all.
