My weak link GPU...

I opened my case today following this thread and discovered that I have an additional connector coming from my PSU. Does this mean I could have better options? Or, would my PC/PSU not cope with that? In case it helps I took a note of the PSU when inside - it is a Dell AC460AD-00 which I think is 460w.

I'd really appreciate advice on this, previously a family member said 'with an old computer like that you can only have a GPU that doesn't need additional power' (which is why I got the 750ti in the first place!)

Well it's not a horrible unit so I don't see why not. I'd probably end up getting an RX 580 8GB because those are stupid cheap now. Really just pick the one that'll fit and has the proper connectors on it and go with it. IIRC the only ones to really stay away from are the MSI Armor ones because the coolers are laughable.

Hi - my setup...

Dell XPS 8300 (stock PSU)
Intel Core i5 2300 @ 2.8 GHz
Dell 0Y2MRG Motherboard
16GB DDR3 1333 MHz 4x4Gb
MSI NVIDIA GTX 750Ti 2 GB 1020 MHz
I run two monitors - a 23" Dell which came with it and an LG Ultrawide 25"
Sandisk SSD Plus 480Gb - Windows 10

I bought the 750ti a few years ago and it has served me really well but I'd like to get a better GPU as it's creaking a bit now. Ideally I would like a GPU (like the 750ti) which only gets power from the PCi-E.

What is my best upgrade option please? New / used? With a budget of around $200-250.

All suggestions welcome.

Thank you!

Really the only sensible option for something entirely bus powered to upgrade from a 750Ti is a 1050Ti.

The only bus-powered 560 I'm finding is the ripoff 896SP version, which the 1050Ti is still faster than, soooooo

Thank you for that, much appreciated.

If I may ask, is there a specific 1050Ti you would recommend? (or are they all similar?)

Thanks

I made my post under the assumption that the OP has a small budget, notice that users above me posted the same thing and I liked it. I am well aware the 1050ti is a superior card but you can purchase an RX560 2Gig for half the price of a 1050ti.

Again, notice that I acknowledge this. I liked the other posts suggesting the 1050ti, I was under the assumption that the OP has a very small budget and considering the 560 2gb used is half the cost of a 1050ti I suggested it.

You didn't though? Liking posts doesn't really indicate fuckall. And if you can't read the OP where the dude states his budget, you shouldn't be recommending anything, like come on.

MSI RX 560 4GB Aero ITX (make sure its a 1024 shader model, 1024 and 896 versions exist.)

Or a 1050 Ti without a 6-pin connector.

Looks like that one has a 6-pin connector. Personally I'd go with any of the three cheapest on PCPP (since they're all bus-powered cards), though I'd personally end up going with the MSI card just because of better cooling.

I'd look again. The Zotac one doesn't have a 6 pin and it's only pulling 75 watts which is going to be just over the PCIE port

oyep you're right. All of the pictures didn't load for me the first time around so all I had was the back shot where the shroud made it look like it had one.

Actually, there has been a development of sorts....
